Once the campground quieted down, we heard loons calling on Fish Creek Pond last night. In the dark, they sound so plaintive and haunting, with their voices carrying over the water. I’m going to be on the lookout for loons while we are here in the Adirondacks, I want to see these birds in person. Alan was up early, and snapped some sunrise pictures on the lake, while I snoozed.
The next tenants at our site arrived early this morning (9 am!) as we were starting to break camp after breakfast. We were assigned site #296 last night, but after seeing how wet it was from the rain, we liked #218 better. However, the campground staff apparently didn’t change our site number in the computer after Alan called the office. The man that came early to set up camp before his family arrived later in the day was a little surprised to find us in his site, but we were clearing out soon anyway, so it worked out fine.
Since the campground didn’t have laundry facilities, we needed to find somewhere to do laundry on our route today. Tupper Lake was the first town we came to and we lucked out with a laundromat with a donut shop inside! Genius! A woman runs a little shop inside the laundromat, cranking out fresh donuts all day long. Two loads of laundry and four donuts later, we were set for the ride to Cranberry Lake to meet up with with my sister Amy and her boyfriend, Tim. The route was pretty flat and Alan and I took turns drafting off each other, so we made good time to our campsite. I made some couscous for dinner and we waited for the rest of Team Adventure 2014 to arrive. Alan bought some wood and made a fire to help keep the bugs away. Amy and Tim arrived after dark, set up their tent and enjoyed the fire with us for a while. We talked about potential plans for adventuring in the coming days. Starting in 2007, Amy and I have had “Adventure Week” every August, where we travel somewhere for a week of camping, hiking, biking, exploring and good-ole adventuring. Since the first Adventure Week we’ve added the boys, Tim and Alan, and done some epic trips. I’m really glad that we get to meet up with Amy and Tim and have an Adventure Week after all.
