After getting the bike boxes delivered to Fedex and shoe-horning our stuff into a single bag yesterday, we also made shuttle arrangements to get from Salinas to the San Francisco International Airport. I’m not sure if we’ve clearly blogged what we’re doing for the next couple of weeks, so here is the plan. This week we are flying to Denver where Alan will stay with our friends Jessica and Shane, and I’ll spend part of the week in Durango, interviewing for a job at Fort Lewis College. Then, next week we’ll fly from Denver to Las Vegas to be reunited with our bikes and spend the Thanksgiving holiday with Alan’s family. We depart for New Zealand on December 4 and restart this traveling adventure in the southern hemisphere.
So, this morning, Mike made awesome chocolate crepes for breakfast and then Catherine delivered us to the Park-and-Ride in Salinas. I was sad to say so-long, but it was so much fun to see Catherine and Mike again, and meet Ryan and Andrew.
Our flight to Denver was uneventful, but we landed to freezing temperatures and flying snow on the ground. It was quite a contrast to three hours previously in California, what a difference. We took the shuttle to the car rental office and picked up a car to get us to Jessica and Shane’s house. By the time we hit the road, it was dark and snow was starting to build up on the roads. Even the interstate was quite treacherous, not to mention the secondary roads, but we made it to Jessica and Shane’s house in one piece. Before bed, we spent some time catching up with them, and then went to sleep on our own bed (since they are storing our spare bedroom furniture for us!). Tomorrow I’ll finish my interview preparations and Alan and I will pay a visit to the storage unit to get a few things I need for my trip.
